1) we are not academics and our thoughts rather unpolished; forgive us but know our insights are valuable since they come from hard-earned hands-on experience. 2) we swim China's hazard-filled waters each day always watching for sharks; this may give us an unintended negative bent on some things China. 3) read our blog but make your own judgments; we cannot be responsible for anything you may do after reading Street Dog and, if push comes to shove, I guarantee we'll deny knowing you.

From Wall Street Journal: Managing Director of The Carlyle Group, David Rubenstein, predicts that China will surpass the U.S. as the dominant economy by the year 2035, in a ViewPoints interview with Deputy Managing Editor Alan Murray.
What da’ ya’ think? He’s certainly not “Google” and are you serious, “(Companies) always do what’s in their best economic interest” … ?! Isn’t that what caused Wall Street to blow up? What happened to the concept of “moral obligation”? This boy can dance.
I am forcing myself to sit down and write this entry. I have discovered that for someone with a full-time job, maintaining a blog is not an easy task. Since Jan 1 this year, our business has been filled with a whole lot of “busy-ness”. Seems a lot of companies, people, are coming to us with a real interest in cracking Continue reading China Biz Diary, March 8, 2010
Consider how long it has taken advanced countries to develop their technology, industrial and defense base. It’s been a long, drawn-out and ongoing social-government-industry process. Generation upon generation, innovation builds upon innovation, and knowledge upon knowledge. Companies – countries – obviously must do all in their power to protect “IP”. That’s what patents, security protocols and things like network firewalls are implemented to help do. What if, however, these protections failed? What if the painstakingly nurtured and so long guarded “brain” of your company or government, that complex system used to store, process and interpret your intellectual assets, were somehow compromised and in very short order? As this NPR broadcast suggests, that may be exactly what’s happening.
We know from our business experiences, when your “method” is not working, it’s often best to change your method. Yeah, it’s a good time for an update.
Have a good day and get real,

PS: In all fairness, espionage is practiced by all countries and many companies against “competitors”. But, the Chinese are determined and very good at this game; they want very badly to win. Americans, on the other hand and as an example, are complacent and more worried about where to buy their new flat panel TV, one by the way, that was made in China using foreign developed technology!
I am sitting here taking in my morning dose of CNN online. Always on the lookout for any stories “China”, the following one caught my eye …. Gay Pageant Shut Down in China. What I take from the story is not about being gay but more about the government’s desire to control. Whether it’s China’s global image, Chinese public thought or cultural trends to name a few, the Chinese government … maybe we should say departments and people within it … continues to employ “control” actions that seem almost archaic in today’s world. Their actions are often reactionary, last minute and swift suggesting to me much “pre” contemplation and indecision as demonstrated by this story. I am sure many were surprised the pageant progressed as far as it did. Less surprising, though disappointing, is that it was shut down albeit last minute. China remains unpredictable and caution is advised when dealing here. Don’t assume anything and always do your homework.
